Air Force Academy and ROTC cadets from across the country visited Warren July 31 as part of a summer elective program.

The program, Space 251, is an Air Force space mission familiarization course for students taking the class for the first time. Students taking the class a second time are earning leadership credits as class leaders and instructors.

This was the fourth time the class has came to Warren this summer.

"The visits have gone very well," said 2nd Lt. William Pettit, 321st Missile Squadron and group escort. "It's nice to give the cadets a glimpse of what the space and missile mission is. If I could have been part of something like this when I was a cadet, it would have really opened my eyes."

The 321st MS was this year's sponsoring squadron for the annual program.
During their visit, the group saw a missileer departure briefing, the missile procedure trainers, the U-01 training launch facility and a missile alert facility.

AFA Cadet 2nd Class Michael Wojciechowicz from Brooklyn, N.Y., said one of the best parts of the visit is to talk to the officers about their jobs and responsibilities because it gives him insight to the active duty Air Force.

"It's hard to really understand the missile mission unless you actually go out and see this stuff firsthand," Cadet Wojciechowicz said.

Cadet Wojciechowicz is one of the group's leaders.

"The trip has been fantastic," said Cadet 1st Class Matt Illowsky from San Jose State University in California. "We all aspire to be great officers so it's nice to receive all the advice from the current officers."

The group had about 58 cadets and included six cadets from Columbia's Air Force Academy.
