Outdoor Recreation here hosts trips for Airman and their families each weekend to get out and enjoy what the outdoors has to offer. The trips vary in activities, such as camping to hiking, as well as time frames, from day trips to weekend adventures.

Outdoor Recreation hosted a one-day trip Aug. 17 to Albany Lodge, Albany, Wyo., and spent a few hours riding ATVs through the trails. The trip cost $30 and included transportation, all the necessary rental equipment, and four hours of riding with a trail guide leading the way.

The group of 15 people discovered many of the trails this area had to offer. From mud and water to sand and rocks, the trails had a little of everything to satisfy every rider, from the beginners to the more advanced and experienced.

"Being a new ATV rider, this experience was scary at first because of the unknown," said Maj. Dexter Nelson, 90th Force Support Squadron commander. "Initially, I was able to ride with an experienced rider, A1C Louis Epperson, who taught me the ins and outs of ATV riding and gave me the courage to get behind the wheel."

The all-day trip was designed to build morale between the Airmen who came, and to allow them to get out and meet people from around base and spend time away from the office, said Black.

These types of trips allow the Outdoor Recreation Staff drive their rental vehicles and to see what their machines can accomplish.

"We went out and tested what Outdoor Recreation's vehicles could go through as well as tested them versus the rentals from Albany Lodge," Said Shane Black, an Outdoor Recreation employee who supervised the trip. "We were able to push our machines to the limits as well as help others experience riding ATVs."

Outdoor Recreation has many trips planned for the coming weeks, ranging from a downhill mountain bike ride Aug. 31, an overnight camping trip Sept. 1-2, and a hunting weekend Sept. 20-22.

"If you're looking for a great family outing or if you are a single Airmen, please visit the FSS Outdoor Recreation facility," Nelson said. "They offer lots of activities for all ages; just stop in and see what's available."
