In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month this April, the lights that shine on the missiles near Gate will be teal, the color that represents Sexual Assault Prevention and Response. This year's theme is "Live Our Values: Step Up to Stop Sexual Assault."

According to the SAPR website, http://www.sapr.mil/ , the 2014 SAAM theme declares Airmen should:
· Live our values every day, all year long.
· Step up by intervening when appropriate, reporting crimes and supporting victims.

If we do these things, we can help stop sexual assault.

Also during the month of April, there will be teal bows on lamp posts on Randall Avenue.

In the Cheyenne, Wyo., community, the SAPR office partnered with Safehouse, who worked with the Cheyenne Depot to participate in the awareness campaign by putting teal lights and bows on the grounds in the Depot Square.

The SAPR office encourages Airmen who hear people talking about the teal colors here or in the Depot to inform them of the significance and help spread the word.

Sexual assault is a traumatic offense that needs to be discussed openly if there is to ever be hope to eliminate this devastating crime.

People dealing with sexual assault can find help by calling the 24/7 helpline at 307-773-6444. People can also stop by the office in Building 242 on the corner of Randall Avenue and Old Glory Road. The Department of Defense SAFE Helpline is 877-995-5247, and more information can be found at https://safehelpline.org/. It is another great resource to further understanding on this issue.

Live our values. Step up to stop sexual assault -- not just this April, but always.
