Tech. Sgt. receives combat action medal
Tech. Sgt. John Fender, 90th Missile Wing Plans and Programs, and Barry Kistler, 90th MW director of staff, hold Fender’s Air Force Combat Action Medal citation Feb. 14 in the Wing Conference Room on F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo. Fender was awarded the AFCAM for “active participation in combat, having been under direct and hostile fire or physically engaging hostile forces with direct and lethal fire, in connection with military operations.” Fender’s actions were in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from Aug. 14, 2004 to March 6, 2005. F. E. Warren youths
F. E. Warren Air Force Base youths, their parents and youth center staff work on lap blankets in the base youth center Feb. 14. Making the blankets, for donation to the Cheyenne Veteran Affairs Medical Center’s nursing facility was part of a community service project sponsored by the youth center. According to Tammy Stone, youth center director, seven children, along with youth center staff, delivered eight blankets to the VA the next day. Stone said it is the center’s goal to get the children involved in a community service project every month. “We wanted to get the kids more involved in the community.” Amanda Showmaker, youth program assistant, said. “They can do something nice and see how nice it is to give.” (U.S. Air Force photo by R.J.
