Twentieth Air Force hosts an Activation Ceremony and Assumption of Command to stand-up the 582nd Helicopter Group March 27 at 1:30 p.m. in the helicopter hangar here.  Media flights will be available that morning with enough interest (see end of release).

Col. David Smith will assume command of the 582nd HG from Maj. Gen. Jack Weinstein, Task Force 214 and 20th Air Force commander.

The 582nd HG is standing up under 20th AF to improve mission effectiveness and standardization at all three missile wings at Malmstrom AFB, Montana; Minot AFB, N.D.; and F.E. Warren.  Crews will have clear aviation leadership oversight, mentoring, development opportunities, and a promising career path for UH-1N aviators.  Twentieth AF will also be standing up an Operations Support Squadron (OSS), and each base will stand up an OSS detachment to assist in the operations, management and resourcing of the helicopter squadrons.

Media interested in attending the 582nd HG Assumption of Command should send their requests via email to public affairs at no later than 2 p.m. on March 25.

Media representatives are asked to meet at Gate 2 parking lot no later than 12 p.m.  Interview requests will be done prior to the ceremony at 1:30 p.m.

There will be additional opportunities to participate in interviews and flights before the Assumption of Command.

· Media Flights:  Media flights will be available if there is enough interest.  Media representatives interested in participating in media flights on a UH-1N Huey helicopter March 27 at 9 a.m. should RSVP no later than 2 p.m. on March 24.  Due to pre-flight briefings all media involved will meet at Gate 2 at 7:40 a.m.  These will be orientation flights around the missile field, and there will be opportunities after the flight to conduct interviews with pilots and flight engineers. This will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

· Live, morning interviews: Media representatives interested in doing on-air radio interviews the morning of March 26 with the new 582nd HG leadership should RSVP as soon as possible or no later than 2 p.m. on March 24.  This will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
