F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- F.E. Warren Fire Department officials have announced plans to conduct a series of prescribed burns on the installation from Sunday, April 12, 2026, through Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The controlled burns will take place daily between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in two primary locations: the northern area of the base and the civil engineer compost yard on the south side. These operations are a critical part of the base's land management program.
"These prescribed burns are essential for maintaining the ecological health of our landscape and are a key tool in our strategy to reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfires," said Master Sgt. Christopher T. Horoho, Deputy Fire Chief for the F.E. Warren Fire Department. "By proactively managing vegetation, we enhance the safety and resilience of both the installation and our surrounding communities."
During this period, residents of the base and local community members in the Cheyenne area may see smoke and potentially open flames emanating from the designated burn areas. Base personnel and fire management experts will be on-site to ensure the burns are conducted safely and with minimal impact on the surrounding area.
All personnel are advised to avoid direct contact with smoke plumes and to refrain from entering the active burn areas.
For any questions or concerns regarding the prescribed burns, members of the public are encouraged to call 307-773-4477 between April 11-25 for updates and further information.
