WWII footlocker lost for decades; Warren Airman finds rightful owners

130916-F-JW0079-018: Tech. Sgt. Gary Wayland, 90th Force Support Squadron, stumbled upon a footlocker from World War II that belonged to an Army Air Corps pilot. The footlocker was found by Wayland's friend September 2012 in a storage shed in Cheyenne, Wyo. Wayland has been doing research on the original owner of the footlocker, 1st Lt. Hiram Appleget of the 95th Bomber Squadron. He was killed-in-action March 1, 1943, and is buried in the North Africa American Cemetery in Tunisia. He plans to return the vintage footlocker and Purple Heart citation to the ancestors of Hiram Appleget in the coming months. (U.S. Air Force photo by R.J. Oriez)
