130916-F-JW0079-030: A close-up of the Purple Heart citation and the World War II footlocker belongs to 1st Lt. Hiram Appleget of the 95th Bomber Squadron, who was killed-in-action March 1, 1943, and is buried in the North Africa American Cemetery in Tunisia. Tech. Sgt. Gary Wayland, 90th Force Support Squadron, stumbled upon a footlocker that belonged to the Army Air Corps pilot, and this citation was in an old envelope postmarked Nov. 12, 1943. Wayland had the citation professionally framed and plans to return the vintage footlocker and Purple Heart citation to the family members of Hiram Appleget in the coming months.
