Korean War vet receives Purple Heart, POW medals 60 years later

Second Lt. Christen Ornella, 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs, recounts the story of 1st Lt. (Ret.) Paul Kniss’s evacuation of his damaged P-51 Mustang and subsequent capture during the Korean Conflict May 31, 1952, to the audience, including his friends and F.E. Warren personnel. A medal presentation ceremony was held for Kniss in the F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., Theater Dec. 5, 2013. Instead of receiving a Purple Heart medal upon his return to friendly forces after approximately a year-and-a-half of captivity, Kniss opted to head straight home to his wife, and received the Purple Heart as well a Prisoner of War medal 61 years after he earned them.
