Paul Kniss’s evacuation of his damaged P-51 Mustang and subsequent capture during the Korean Conflict May 31, 1952, to the audience, including his friends and F.E. Warren personnel. A medal presentation ceremony was held for Kniss in the F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., Theater Dec. 5, 2013. Instead of receiving a Purple Heart medal upon his return to friendly forces after approximately a year-and-a-half of captivity, Kniss opted to head straight home to his wife, and received the Purple Heart as well a Prisoner of War medal 61 years after he earned them.
