Tech. Sgt. Robert Leigh, 90th Logistics Readiness Squadron, and Chris Shafer, Phoenix Management Inc., pump E85 fuel, gasoline composed of 85 percent ethanol, into a glass jar for examination at the military service station April 5. E85, a bio-based, renewable fuel made from corn, uses less fossil fuels than traditional gasoline. Ethanol fuel can reduce carbon dioxide emissions, a major contributor to global warming. Carbon dioxide is released during ethanol production and combustion but it can be absorbed as a nutrient used by the crops that produce it. It is also non-toxic, biodegradable and water-soluble.
