Car seats

Terry French, 90th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, helps buckle Cooper Jones, 4, into his car seat in the back of his mother’s van on F. E. Warren Air Force Base March 15. The Warren base fire department conducted a free children’s car seat check to help make sure the seats are properly installed so child passengers are fully protected. French said the most common problem found was seats not belted in tight enough. “They’re only allowed one-inch of movement,” French said. Nationally, the biggest problem is car seats that are not compatible with the weight or size of the child using them, he added. Shannon Jones, Cooper’s mother, said that, through the check, she learned how to use the back of the passenger seat to help get the child car seat installed snugly. She was shown how lowering the back of the seat before installing the car seat and then raising the back of the seat back into place makes for a tighter fit. Cooper is the son of Staff Sgt. Brandon Jones, 90th Missile Security Forces Squadron. (U.S. Air Force photo by R.J. Oriez)
