Built in 1881, the Ames Monument stands on the location where Sherman, Wyoming once was. The site of the old rail town is just south of I-80 and can be accessed by making a left after taking exit 329. Built to honor the influential work of Oliver and Oakes Ames in constructing the transcontinental railroad, the 60 foot tall limestone pyramid stands out in the otherwise empty landscape with a backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in the distance.
