Teams came out for a relaxed round of golf to end Police Week with a good time. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Col. Carl Jones, 90th Missile Wing vice commander, delivers the keynote speech at the Western Star Lodge #6’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Black Tie Banquet Jan. 19, 2014, at the Holiday Inn, Cheyenne, Wyo. Jones stressed that race relations have improved since the days of King’s activism, yet there are still areas for improvement within U.S. society. He expressed the need for the Cheyenne and F.E. Warren communities to become closer and work together for the betterment of both. “There’s no reason for us not to be the one community the rest of Wyoming wants to emulate,” he said.
