2023 Defender Challenge
Members of the Air Force Global Strike Command Defender Challenge team take on the physical fitness portion of the competition Oct. 25, 2023, at the Fort Bliss Doña Ana Range Complex near Chaparral, New Mexico. The competition, hosted by the Air Force Security Forces career field and planned and executed by the Air Force Security Forces Center, determines the best-of-the-best security forces teams and individuals using a variety of base ground defense scenarios. Eleven teams of five represented each Air Force major command. This is the first Defender Challenge since the COVID-19 pandemic with organizers hoping to now return to a biennial schedule. A formation of Airmen renders the first salute to Maj. Gen. Anthony J. Cotton, as Cotton takes command of the 20th Air Force, which is responsible for the nation's three Intercontinental Ballistic Missile wings and one nuclear operations support wing, during a change of command ceremony at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Nov. 16, 2015. Cotton also assumed command of Task Force 214, which reports to U.S. Strategic Command.
