Warren Airman selected for USAFA prep school Published June 1, 2007 By Airman Alex Martinez 90th Space Wing Public Affairs F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- A member of the 90th Missile Maintenance Squadron was selected to attend the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School. Senior Airman Eric Johnson, 90th MMXS, received the good news last month about his acceptance into the prep school; one that he applied for in October. He hopes that his time at the prep school will help him gain acceptance into the academy. "For as long as I can remember, it's something I always wanted to do," Airman Johnson said. Airman Johnson is a first-term Airman at Warren and has been here for three years. He has done a lot of preparation for the prep school with the knowledge that the academic schedule will not be easy. "I took a lot of college classes to get ready for the school and so it will look better on my applications," Airman Johnson said. Located on the USAFA grounds, the prep school accepts about 240 students every year between the ages of 17 though 22. The school is designed to challenge students though academics, physical fitness and military studies to prepare them for the demanding four-year academy; however, students are not guaranteed an academy spot. Students must apply for the academy at the completion of the prep school and Airman Johnson plans to do so. "I'm looking forward to the challenge of the whole thing," Airman Johnson said. "I've always wanted to be an officer, and hopefully, I will be able to get a pilot job and fly." The prep school is available for all Airmen with an interest to attend and requires a lot of motivation. "I would tell Airmen who want to go to just go for it," Airman Johnson said. "The thing that separates us all is the motivation to get stuff done."
