A Warren dependent recently attended an international bowling competition and placed eighth.

Drake Guerra spent ten days in Holland at the Youth Friendship Games. He competed against 500 other bowlers from 41 different countries. He was the only American to place in the top ten, and his average score at the games was 196.

Mr. Guerra explained that he was nervous about the competition in Holland because he was representing his country.

"That fact was what made me worry that I wouldn't do as well I as wanted to."

The practice for the competition was intense, he said.

"I was in three bowling leagues per year. I was bowling at least twice a week every week. There were no summer leagues, so I had to keep motivated on my own to practice through the summer," said Mr. Guerra.

Mr. Guerra, who has been bowling for seven years now, said he became interested in bowling after his grandparents first brought him with them to a bowling event at Warren Lanes.

It was at the bowling alley that he heard about the youth league and decided he wanted to bowl.

Guerra's highest official score for a game is 279 at Warren Lanes. His name and legend can still be found posted on Warren Lane's high score bulletin today. He currently bowls in Warren Lanes' Monday Night Youth and Adult League and is also a member of the Saturday Morning League and the Cheyenne Travel League.

"The competition is what I love about bowling," he said.

Bowling presents an even playing field because anyone can bowl and that means it can attract all types of people, he said.

Mr. Guerra also claims that bowling is a stress relief for him. "Bowling is a lot of fun and it calms me down," he said.

His goal for the next stop in his bowling career is to go to college.

"I'd like to attend a college with a bowling team and perhaps receive some college scholarships for bowling," Mr. Guerra said.
