A Montana native recently filled a position in Warren's Education Center that has been vacant for nearly a year and a half.

Charles Wells, 90th Force Support Squadron, is now the new career guidance counselor.

Not only does a career guidance counselor assist with career planning, he said, but they find resources to help people with their education goals.

Better yet, Mr. Wells said, it's a guidance counselor's job to show people the free resources available.

One of Mr. Wells' current projects is a portfolio containing all the pertinent information regarding career progression, skill enhancement and education benefits.

Once completed, he said he plans to mass produce the portfolio to give to the many people on base ... especially the first-term Airmen.

"If you'll excuse me, the older folks here already know about most of the benefits education centers offer," Mr. Wells said. "It's when you target the younger crowd, maybe at the first-term Airmen center, that you get results."

However, Mr. Wells said, counseling the service members who have been in longer is not out of the picture.

Guidance counselors are poised, waiting to give information to any who ask for it.
"I don't like the term information giver," he said. "I not only provide information, but I try to show that education can be fun. It's not just a challenge, but a vision of a better life for you.

"There's nothing really holding you back," he said. "Don't take your education lightly."
