Members from the Air Force Education and Training Command's Special Duty Recruiting Team visited Airmen here Aug. 15 to talk about special duty assignment opportunities.

The special duties represented were Military Training Instructor, Military Training Leader, Air Force recruiter and the Air Force National Honor Guard. Each job has its own set of qualifications and requirements, but all are available to volunteers.

"It's important that you are volunteering for the right reasons," said Tech. Sgt. Josh Hinsey, 90th Force Support Squadron First-Term Airman Center NCO-in charge. "If you're just looking to change your duty location, then you're volunteering for the wrong reason."

He explained that special duty assignments require some of the highest caliber individuals, and those who are looking to serve the Air Force beyond their primary career field.

According to the MTI Web site, female instructors are in demand, and they offer an 18-month time-on-station waiver. If someone has been on station for at least 18 months, they are free to apply and eligible for reassignment to the MTI special duty.

"If you meet the qualifications for a special duty, apply for it, even if you're in a critically-manned career field," Hinsey said. "The applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and, if you're the most qualified for the job, you may be released from your career field."
