Labor Day weekend will mark the end of the 90th Missile Wing's Critical Days of Summer campaign.

To draw this campaign to a successful conclusion, be prepared for heavier traffic, children going back to school, and recreational activities.

Traffic could be heavier than usual this weekend as more people might drive out of town for some last minute fun in the sun. People need to stay more alert for other vehicles on the road.

Whether one is driving in the neighborhood or going out of town, please ensure that seatbelts are always worn. It is not only the law, but seatbelts save more than 13,000 lives every year.

Children are heading back to school. As children are walking to the bus stop and going to school, be extra careful and be mindful of speed. As a reminder, the school zone speed limit is 20 mph and the base housing areas speed limit is 15 mph. Teach children to never walk behind a bus and that they should let the bus driver know if something of theirs falls under the bus.

There are numerous activities people may be participating in this weekend as they celebrate the end of the summer such as fishing, hunting, hiking and boating. Injuries can be prevented by applying risk management, using common sense and knowing one's limits while participating in these activities.

The 90th Missile Wing safety office would like to thank all commanders, first sergeants and supervisors for their outstanding leadership this summer. As of the writing of this article, the wing has only had seven mishaps resulting in the member receiving quarters or convalescent leave this summer.

The most important thing to remember here is that we did not have a single fatal accident. Awesome job, Mighty Ninety!

No matter what the plans are this weekend, the wing safety staff encourages all to practice safe judgment. Do not let alcohol, fatigue, inattention or lack of seatbelt use, be the cause of becoming the next mishap victim.

Have fun on this long weekend and be safe.
