Two men who were rescued out of a cave earlier this year recently honored Warren's fire department personnel who responded to the rescue.

Warren's fire department falls under Laramie County Fire District 8, and regularly responds to emergency calls downtown to assist the local fire departments.

Cheyenne native Ladd Larson and his friend Ron Hauck, came here Sept. 1 to thank those who rescued them from the cave back in April.

"I appreciate you guys so much." Larson said. "It was a hard position to be in for 10-and-a-half hours, and I can't thank you enough."

On April 30, Warren's fire and emergency services, in conjunction with the Cheyenne fire department, responded to an emergency call reporting two males trapped in a cave. One of the trapped individuals was reported to be injured, while the other was unharmed.

Once on scene, Heath Bichel, 90th CES fire department, entered the cave and assessed the situation. After surveying the scene, Bichel requested that a Cheyenne fire department rescuer with advanced life support training, repel down to assist with patient treatment.

David Buschong, 90th CES fire department, and another Warren responder also entered the cave to aid in securing the trapped men. After both men were rescued, first aid was administered and the freed men were transported to a local hospital for additional care.

"I have to say again that I'm so appreciative of the work these guys do," Larson said. "This is the best thing to happen to me, and without them, I wouldn't be here today."
