U.S. Air Force Concert Band, Singing Sergeants perform for Cheyenne

F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants performed a concert at the civic center in Cheyenne, Wyo., Oct. 18.

The Concert Band and Singing Sergeants visited Cheyenne as part of a 25-day community relations tour that included Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota.

"The purpose of this tour is to honor veterans, inspire patriotism and showcase the global Air Force mission," said 2nd Lt. Mark Flannery, 11th Operations Group Public Affairs.

The Concert Band is an internationally recognized symphonic wind ensemble, and the Singing Sergeants is the official chorus of the United States Air Force.

The theme of the concert was "The Music of America." It featured songs from various periods in American history, as well as medleys of American country and patriotic songs.

Col. George Farfour, 90th Missile Wing vice commander, gave opening remarks at the performance, in which he emphasized the importance of the band's efforts for Airmen and the community.

"The Concert Band and Singing Sergeants bring music and messages from home to encourage and uplift our Airmen and other service members overseas, which really means a lot to our family, friends, and of course, our country," Farfour said.

Col. A. Phillip Waite, Air Force Band commander and conductor, spoke about the band's precision and excellence as a reflection of the work that is being done by Airmen all over the world every day.

"We've come to let you know that every single Airman is dedicated and passionate about serving you, serving this country, serving the cause of freedom with excellence, and we want you to be sure of that," Waite said.

The performance drew a large crowd at the civic center, including active duty and retired military members, and both military and non-military families.

"Our Cheyenne and Wyoming families help make up the fabric of our nation; from our veterans, to our family members, to the citizens of this great city and state," Farfour said. "Please allow us, the U.S. Air Force, to honor you, our neighbors and our families, with this uplifting performance," he said.
