Warren offers 'balanced' exercise routine Published Jan. 13, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Dan Gage 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- With the winter months fully upon the Mighty Ninety, more and more Warren members may be moving their exercise routines indoors or reintroducing themselves to the gym in an effort to fulfill New Year's resolutions. In an effort to help Warren's members meet those goals and continue their physical conditioning, the Freedom Hall Fitness Center staff and Health and Wellness Center staff would like to remind military members and their families in the Cheyenne area of a recent addition of equipment available to them. Members of the Mighty Ninety community are encouraged to try the TRX suspension trainer equipment located in the Freedom Hall Fitness Center during their next exercise session. "The TRX equipment is a great alternative to the weight machines and other equipment in the gym for many reasons," said Alison Morrell, 90th Medical Operations Squadron exercise physiologist. "Instead of waiting for a weight machine to become available, then having to adjust it to the individuals needs, someone can get started on the TRX with no set-up and minimal waiting time." Through the TRX suspension trainer, Warren members can also find a more balanced exercise routine. "While weight machines focus on certain groups of muscles, TRX also incorporates balance and stability into the workout," Morrell said. "Those who feel uneasy or self-conscious about working out in the gym, or not using weight equipment correctly, can find more privacy and ease-of-use using the TRX equipment in the gym." Along with individual workout routines, the multiple TRX stations can be utilized by groups to increase workout productivity. TRX classes are offered at noon every Tuesday and Thursday in the Freedom Hall Fitness Center and more days and times may be added based on attendance. During last year's inaugural Warren Fitness Challenge, attendance in the TRX classes was mandatory for those competing in the challenge. While this year the attendance is not mandatory, involvement is highly encouraged and extra points will be awarded to teams who utilize the equipment. "This equipment is a great addition to a cross-training program," Morrell said. "Along with the classes, we also introduced this equipment to all the physical training leaders among the squadrons here and are making the equipment available to them for check-out to use outdoors in the summer." Those looking for a fast and effective way to get a great workout, and ultimately help improve PT scores, can come to the Freedom hall fitness center and try out the new classes being taught or contact the HAWC for a one-on-one training session.
