Fall Hall has it all Published Feb. 22, 2007 By Robin Lauser 90th Services Squadron F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- What's your passion? Is it online gaming, shooting hoops, scaling walls, making impossible corner shots with pool sticks or ping-pong paddles, or tracking fast moving objects such as baseballs or fletched arrows? Whatever your passion, the Fall Hall Community Center has it. Programs including baby-sitting, belaying instruction, boxing and scrapbooking are designed to add pleasure to life. Recently at Fall Hall, youths ages 12 to 15 completed a comprehensive, 12-hour American Red Cross first aid, CPR and baby-sitting course. "I liked meeting new people and knowing we all came here to learn the same thing," one participant said. "We had something to talk about, and we can share tips on what to do." "I enjoyed learning how to save a choking victim because what if one of my sisters choked and I wouldn't know how to save them," said Rachel Sargent, another participant. While the baby-sitting course was winding down, the action on the climbing wall was ascending. Tara Morton, the community center director, kept a tight rein on safety as she taught the fundamentals of rock climbing, belaying and bouldering. Six beginner climbers were hard at work learning the art of knot-tying, belaying commands and belaying to achieve their rock climbing wall certification. The talk around the dorms seems to be revolving around the new gaming systems and the new gaming equipment found at Fall Hall. Kick back in a recliner or comfortable leather couch in the game room or bring a laptop and log on to your e-mail via the wireless Internet or use one of the computers provided. Ping-pong is growing strong after the first single elimination tournament. For baseball fans there are batting cages. Choose the type, baseball or softball, and the speed. Certified archers can stop by the community center and check out the key to the indoor archery range. Participation averages about 25 to 35 adult archers a week and 5 to 12 certified youth. Fall Hall's youngest patrons, their parents and some of the great family child care providers are enjoying the toddler/preschool parent and child morning out program. Throughout the gym toddlers are setting up for bank shots, while other children take their toy babies on a leisurely stroll through a mini-obstacle course. The focus on these "morning outs" is fun, physical fitness, socialization and interactive music. The parents and care providers have an opportunity to present the children with a different experience while giving them the opportunity to talk with fellow adults. Fall Hall can support Airmen in acquiring the strength, stamina and focus needed to be successful in karate or boxing. The karate program is run by Kevin Vance, a black belt and a member of Seiyo No Shorin-Ryu Karate Kodudo Kai. Participants are treated with respect and infused with the technical skills to be successful. On the opposite side of the gym is boxing training from Capt. Rodney Ellison, 319th Missile Squadron. Captain Ellison is well known in the military boxing world with a No. 1 ranking in the Air Force and No. 2 in the Defense Department. Fall Hall Community Center is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m., and on Sunday and holidays by reservation.
