The 90th Services Squadron celebrates National Physical Fitness and Sports Month with a number of events in May.

Three Airmen will win trophies at the end of the month for participating or winning events.

Each event has points assigned to it. Airmen receive points for entering the different activities and for coming in first, second or third. Participation is worth five points. First place receives 15 points, second place receives 10 points, and third place receives five points. All scores are logged.

All events are open to active duty, dependents, civilians, Guard, Reserve and retirees. Advance sign-up is required at either Freedom or Independence halls by 6 p.m. two days before the event. Events will be cancelled if there are not enough participants.
The first event was a 3K fun run May 1 at FamCamp.

The second event was a 1.5-mile family march May 5 around the base with a guide who shared a brief base history during the walk. The walk began at the base museum at 10 a.m. and took about two hours.

A fitness assessment competition Wednesday challenged Airmen to prove who is truly the best at the Air Force fitness test. Each person completed the fitness test at the main gym with separate events for women and men.

An arm wrestling competition at 5:30 p.m. today at the indoor running track is currently open only to men. If five women registered by Wednesday, a women's category was added.

A home run derby takes place Saturday at noon at the main gym softball field. Each player gets 10 outs to hit as many home runs as possible. The winner will be the player with the most home runs. Players who tie get another three outs to hit as many home runs as they can.

A bench press competition takes place at the indoor running track at 5:30 p.m. May 18. Participants compete in one of three categories: men over 35, men under 35, and female.

Finally, a strong man and strong women competition takes place at 5:30 May 23 in the main gym. Participants compete in five events: tire flip; crucifix, where players hold weights straight out at their sides for a period of time; golf cart pull; power clean, where players attempt to dead lift for a max weight; and shot put.
