Falcons falter losing to Cowboys, 72-59

 The U.S. Air Force Academy Falcons men's basketball team lost to the University of Wyoming Cowboys in a 72-59 contest Jan. 27 at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo.

This was the team's seventh straight loss this season bringing the Falcons to a 9-10 record and 0-6 in conference play, while the Cowboys improved its season to 14-6 and 3-3 for the Mountain West Conference.

Four of the Cowboys reached double figures, led by Tyson Johnson with 18 points, and a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line. Free-throws played a pivotal role in the Pokes win going 26-35 from the stripe, Air Force was only 5-9 from the free-throw line.

The Falcons lead scorer, senior guard Andrew Henke, had 18 points. Anwar Johnson followed with 10 points and Grant Parker and Taylor Stewart both contributed 8 points to the game.

The Falcons finished with 45.2 percent shooting from the floor, but the Pokes just couldn't be tied down by the Air Force's defense.

The Falcons had a strong first half imposing its will and dictating the tempo of the game. They kept the Cowboys to only 31 points. Tight passing, 18 points in the paint and one turnover gave the Falcons a one point advantage going into the second half.

The Cowboys came out strong after halftime causing two turnovers off steals to take a slight lead.

There were several lead changes early in the second half until the Pokes', Sean Ogirri, hit a clutch three pointer spurring a 9-0 run by the Cowboys, which eventually turned into a 14-point lead, the biggest of the night.

This loss marks the first time in more than 11 years that the Air Force has been 0-6 in conference play.
