The business motto is "Pampering your special pet-one paw at a time" because that's what the owner does.

The sometimes messy, clawing, pawing and shedding household animals isn't enough to keep this small business from grooming pets; in fact, it's what keeps it going.

Nestled in a little corner inside the indoor archery range, the fittingly named Oasis Pet Grooming shop offers services for cats and dogs of all shapes and sizes.

"I get along well with the animals, because they don't talk back," joked Becky Boone, Oasis owner and pet groomer. "And, I love being around them."

Before joining the military life as a spouse, she was a veterinarian technician, so she knows animals well. Mrs. Boone has been grooming for more than 15 years.

While her family was stationed in Portugal, she opened her first grooming business. After they permanently changed station to New Jersey, she opened an equine, or horse business. From there they moved to Warren and she began Oasis.

"I like that I can pick my own hours," Mrs. Boone said. "I love what I do."

The sight of pet kennels and the fresh smell of shampoo invites customers to drop off their animals with an eased mind knowing their pet is in for a cleaning.

"Becky is a great groomer," said Robin Lauser, 90th Force Support Squadron and Oasis customer. "I've talked to other people who have used her services, and they said they'll go back. She's fantastic."

Mrs. Boone said many military pet owners prefer on-base grooming services, because it is conveniently located, and it is faster for people to pick up and drop off their pets in conjunction with coming on and going off base.

Before dropping off a pet for grooming, animal owners must make an appointment, preferably around two weeks out from the desired day. Proof of vaccinations is required for the first visit. Prices vary depending on the size of the animal, which is determined by the groomer.

After a visit, customers have 30 minutes to pick up the animal after the specified time to avoid late fees.

Custom haircuts such as Mohawks, boots and vests can be done upon request.

Oasis Pet Grooming is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. After hours requests are accepted and will be determined based on availability. For more information call 287-5972 or the communibrary at 773-3510.
