With school back in session for another year, Warren's library has tools to assist students of all ages with their course work.

Although the library offers many of the traditional resources found at a public library, the mission of Warren's library goes much further.

"Many people don't realize the mission of the library here is tri-fold," said Tekla Slider, 90th Force Support Squadron supervisory librarian. "One of the largest parts of our mission is supporting Camp Guernsey and the individual squadron shops on base."

"We purchase reference material and study guides for airmen to prepare for their upgrade testing that are kept in their individual shops so they have quick access," Slider added.

"We also have references for Airmen participating in the Airmen Leadership School and Air War College," said Sharon Edwards, 90th FSS. "Airmen can access online study materials in our computer lab and complete their training on the Advanced Distributed Learning Services."

"We have nine computers in our lab," Edwards added. "Each computer is connected to color printers, flash drives are permitted and there is Wi-Fi access throughout the building."

The library partners with the education center to help Airmen going through college courses, offering access to many online resources.

Airmen and their families can get access to http://www.tutor.com, a website offering 24/7 tutoring on a wide variety of subjects at http://www.tutor.com/military.

Universal Class is an online continued education program containing more than 500 courses, a program the library just picked up at the start of the school year, Slider said.

Another new online source of information at the library is http://www.MilitaryPeriscope.com. The newly acquired database is an easy to use, illustrated listing of thousands of weapons and a quick guide to military news and armed forces information.

For Airmen and their families trying to learn a new language, the Transparent Language Online Program, just launched in August, is available to total force Airmen, retirees, civilians and families at http://library.transparent.com/aflis. The program contains lessons in more than 80 languages and helps build pronunciation, speech, grammar, writing and vocabulary.

"We also offer a wide range of magazines, children's books, dvds and a children's story time on Friday at 10 a.m.," added Slider. "But, we do much more for the military community then the library downtown."
