Ooey Gooey Ladey hosts seminar for childcare providers Published Jan. 13, 2012 By Senior Airman Mike Tryon 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- Recently, the founder and chief executive officer of Ooey Gooey, Inc., based in Rochester, N.Y., visited here and held a seminar in the child development center for Warren's childcare providers. Lisa Murphy, the Ooey Gooey Lady, applied more than 20 years of early childhood education expertise to teach 65 of Warren's child development center staff, youth center staff and family child care providers a multitude of information during her one-day seminar. "The training provided was a great opportunity for staff to get hands-on experience using the various materials Lisa recommended," said Nancy Warner, 90th Force Support Squadron training and curriculum specialist. "It was great networking with the other program staff in our flight, because we rarely get together due to the fact we are so busy caring for our military children." Creative art with young children; the importance of early experiences and school readiness; ooey gooey squishy plop, which highlights the importance of sensory play; and chants, rhymes, finger plays and songs were the four workshops taught, which focus on how to be more play-based in the classroom. "Murphy's seminars are geared toward creating environments that provide time for development in order to strengthen the foundation that prepares them for school," Warner said. "The training received reinforces how vital it is to the social, physical, cognitive and emotional development of the children in our programs," she added.
