F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- With the help from multiple volunteers, the Airman’s Attic has gone through improvements to better serve those on base.
“The Airman’s Attic is a place where any enlisted, officer, retirees and spouses can shop for free,” said Airman 1st Class Katherine Bowers, 90th Operations Group aviation resource management apprentice. “There are a lot of people that do a permanent change of station, they move off base or have a new baby. This is a place to get what they need for free.”
More than 400 visitors from the Mighty Ninety community utilize this base resource monthly. The changes that have been made to the facility help in serving its customers.
“Improvements have been made in establishing routine, manning and how things are going to ultimately be run,” Bowers said. “The attic has been very much behind on a lot of the donations prior to us taking over so there are a lot of inconsistencies and work that had to be done. It is a lot more organized. Management and volunteers rearranged the whole place, it looks a lot nicer and the items are more organized.”
Bowers also notes that the customer service has improved tremendously. The way the attic runs now has been awesome, without the volunteers this resource would never be available.
Airman 1st Class Phillip Engel, 90th Medical Operations Squadron bioenvironmental engineer was recently selected as the Airman’s Attic first volunteer of the quarter and explains his reason for volunteering.
“The Air Force really tries to promote volunteering and helping the community. When I first got here from a PCS, I went to the Airman’s Attic looking for stuff,” Engel said. “I wanted to help out and give back. It’s something I like doing and I know other Airman will use.”
Engel explained, instead of taking it to the dump, if members donate something to the attic others will get some use out of it.
With the attics improvements and the constant donations and volunteers that serve, it is poised to offer more benefits for those that use it.
“I want to say thank you for everybody’s hard work and making the Airman’s Attic so great,” Bowers said. “Donations are always welcome, volunteers are even more welcome, there is always work to do, always room for improvement.”

Tuesday: 10:30 am to 12:30 p.m. active duty members only
Wednesday: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. all ranks and dependents welcomed
Friday: closed
1st and 3rd Saturday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. all ranks, dependents and retirees welcomed
