Warren Spouses Club encourages participation Published June 18, 2010 By Missy Cook Warren Spouses Club president F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- The Warren Spouses Club is a social and charitable organization. Membership in the WSC is open to all spouses of active-duty, Guard, and Reserve personnel assigned to Warren, the Wyoming Air National Guard and the local area. Our members include enlisted and officer spouses, males and females, those brand new to the Air Force and those who are nearing the end of their careers as military spouses. As a dual focus organization, we strive to obtain two important goals. The first goal is to provide a relaxed environment for our members to pursue their interests and make friends. The second goal is to raise money to support our community and provide scholarships. Through monthly functions, we provide the opportunity for people to meet others. We are really excited to try something new this year with our functions. We have asked each of the wing's groups, Twentieth Air Force and other base and Air National Guard organizations to host a function this year. As the current WSC president, I really believe this will encourage more participation in our functions and allow more people an opportunity to socialize. If your organization is interested in hosting one of these functions, contact Brandy Csizmar, first vice president. We also host several activity clubs. These clubs consist of bunco, fitness, wine, book, Mom & Tots group and more. We are always looking for more club ideas so if your interest is not listed, please contact Rachael Vivian, second vice president. We will be hosting a welcome function August 26 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Trail's End Club, at which time you will also be able to sign up for these clubs. The money we raise goes to support our scholarship programs and the community. We awarded $17,000 in scholarships to military and guard dependants in 2009 and 2010. We donated to the Cheyenne Symphony, St. Mary's School, Freedom Elementary School, STRIDE Learning Centers, Air Force Village, Air Force Enlisted Village, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and additional local and national organizations. The thrift shop here provides a huge portion of these funds. The thrift shop is always in need of additional volunteers; if you are interested in helping, please contact Billie Welchman, the thrift shop manager, or Lynn Clouse, the thrift shop chairman. You can find out more about the Thrift Shop on their Web site www.warrenthriftshop.com. Our big fundraiser is our basket auction, held every February. We ask for base wide and local business participation through the donation of baskets that are then auctioned off. This is a really fun event that we encourage everyone to attend. I think this is going to be a great year for the Warren Spouses Club, and I'm excited for it to begin. I hope you'll join us.
