The base aquatics center is scheduled to re-open Sept. 1 after a several-month renovation project.

Pool patrons will not see many of the changes, as most of the renovations took place in the equipment rooms and underground.

“People will walk in and say, ‘What did you do?’” said Elliot Curtis, 90th Force Support Squadron aquatics center director. “We have new equipment, new ‘guts’ in the equipment room and underground.”

He said the frequent closures in the past years were to perform minor repairs and upgrades to the equipment that keeps the pool in a state appropriate for swimming.

After this past renovation, closures should now be more infrequent.

“The last time it had some major renovations was in the 80s,” Curtis said. “This is not band-aid work we’re doing over here, this is a good fix. I really want to thank the 90th Civil Engineer Squadron for the monumental task that they have accomplished.”

New hours will be in effect. Lap swim will be held Monday and Wednesday from 5 a.m. until 1 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. Open swim will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lap swim hours for Friday are 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lap lanes will be available during open swim depending on how many swimmers use the pool during open-swim hours. The center will be closed on Sundays.

Base organizations can coordinate with the aquatics center staff to use the pool for group physical training.
