Mighty Ninety defenders ran, walked and rucked – the act of carrying extra weight while hiking or marching – a 5-kilometer course on base May 16, 2106, to commemorate National Police Week.

More than 50 Airmen participated in the event, with half the group running or walking and half rucking in formation. Each of the Airmen in the formation wore backpacks with photos of fallen defenders.

Since 1962, May 15 has been designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which it falls as Police Week. It is designed to remember those who died in the line of duty and honor those who continue to serve, both civilians and military.

The 5K was the first of four events planned by the 90th Security Forces Group. Below is a list of other events taking place this week:

  • May 20 – Retreat ceremony at the base flag pole at 3:30 p.m.
  • May 20 – Formation walk in downtown Cheyenne starting at 6 p.m.
  • May 21 – Cheyenne Law Enforcement Memorial 5K will start and finish at the Cheyenne Public Safety Center at 415 W 18th Street at 9 a.m.
  • May 21 – Static Displays at the Cheyenne Mall parking lot beginning at noon
