Dealing with 1040s, W-2s and state forms can be taxing. Fortunately the 90th Missile Wing Tax Center, in Building 232 on F.E. Warren Air Force Base, is now open to help active-duty military, retirees and dependents until Apr. 18.

“This is a complete volunteer force, and they are very enthusiastic about the center,” said Capt. Charles Grimsley, 90th Missile Wing Legal Office General Law chief. “We have about 20 volunteers and for the most part our volunteers are setup to do basic tax returns.”

Before the season officially began, the center recruited over a dozen volunteers and placed them through IRS-approved lessons to ensure fully capably and developed individuals were trained to provide tax assistance.

“Every single volunteer passed the advance training,” Grimsley said. “The test is pretty challenging, so I have confidence in the abilities of our volunteers.”

Staff Sgt. Andriana Anderson, the center’s supervisor, manages the volunteers provided by Grimsley and looks forward to helping the Airmen on base.

“This is a good opportunity to help out,” Anderson said. “Since I’m new to the base, it’s also a good way for me to meet people and help Airmen.”

Helping the Warren community through what can be a challenging time has always been the mission of this annually-ran center. The program, which was housed at Laramie Community College last year, has returned to its base home.

“Last year it was held at LCCC because of manning issues,” Master Sgt. John Heckman said. “It’s nice to have it back on the instillation. I think this is going to be monumental in getting more traffic through.”

Hackman offers his experience from other base tax centers to keep up with the logistics for the center.

“I’m excited and hope people take advantage of this service,” Heckman said. “I’m a big advocate of this program.”

The center is open Monday through Friday, but sees clients by appointment only. For more information call 773-5829.

“I loved this program at my first base,” Anderson said. “It was my first tax return and really helped set me up for the future.”
