Commanders and Airmen of the 90th Maintenance Group gathered Jan. 27 to ceremoniously mark the deactivation of one squadron and the immediate activation of another as the 90th Maintenance Operations Squadron was redesignated to the 790th Maintenance Squadron.

"The inactivation of the 90th MOS was actually effective as of [Sept. 30, 2015]," said Maj. Jacquie Sartori, 790th MXS commander. "This was a formal representation of the change."

Col. Trevor Flint, 90th MXG commander, said the change brings the 790th MXS in line with Air Force-wide maintenance squadron naming conventions. MOSs throughout the ICBM force also made the change, and standardizing the names of the squadrons with the rest of the Air Force reinforces the fact that Airmen are part of one fight.

In addition, he said, standardized language will enable the ICBM force to compete for funding with greater effectiveness.

The redesignation ceremony, held in the MXG Maintenance High Bay, is a key part of solidifying the change in the hearts of the Airmen in the squadron.

"It brings some history and heraldry to the change," Sartori said.

Sartori said her next step in the process is to acquire approval for the squadron emblem, which is currently being vetted through the approval process.
