Warren Lanes' in-house food venue has re-opened for business after a brief closure and has been re-branded Spinz Hand Crafted Food, a change from its former title, the Missile Grill. The Spinz Warren Lanes staff and 90th Force Support Squadron hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and food tasting event Feb. 24 to commemorate the re-opening.

"What we're wanting to do is take the food service to the next level for the Airmen and their families," said Devon Clark, Orion Food Systems vice president of franchise development.

After speaking with colleagues at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., and hearing about the success of Orion food venues there, Timothy Renegar, 90th Force Support Squadron deputy to the commander, spoke with Orion representatives and began working on a plan to make changes to F.E. Warren food venues.

"We felt it was a good fit for the bowling alley," Renegar said.

The first meeting about the project was in October 2013, Clark said.

"That's record turnaround time for us," he said.

The benefits Spinz will bring are an expansion of the menu, an increased focus on speed of service and an overall quality of service, he said.

Spinz' signature items include the bacon cheeseburger, thin crust pizza and breakfast burrito during breakfast hours.

Orion assisted in providing new equipment and marketing for Spinz, and Orion chefs trained former Missile Grill chefs to prepare a new variety of food and new methods of preparing food that was already on the menu before, Renegar said.

"The ultimate test is what the food tastes like," said Col. Tracey Hayes, 90th Missile Wing commander, before ceremoniously cutting the ribbon, officially opening Spinz for those in attendance.

After the ribbon cutting, attendees were offered a selection of Spinz' menu items. Hayes' verdict: "Thumbs up."

Her sentiments were echoed by Airman Josh Szajko, 90th Comptroller Squadron finance technician. He was the first person in attendance to try any of the new food options.

"It's fresh food," he said. "It's prepared well, and there's a good variety."

Szajko said he had eaten at the Missile Grill many times before and thinks the change is a step in the right direction.

"This is much needed," he said. "I think it'll definitely revive it."

Single Airmen might be happy to know when the F.E. Warren Dining Facility re-opens, and they use meal cards again, the meal card can be used to purchase food at Spinz, said James Compton, 90th FSS Community Services Flight chief.

Compton said he thinks Airmen will appreciate having a range of options from which to choose.

"I encourage everybody to come out and try it at least once," Renegar said.
