The Warren Spouses Club hosted the 8th Annual Basket Auction in the Trail's End Club March 15.

Various F.E. Warren organizations put together and donated baskets of gifts and desserts to be auctioned at a silent auction and a live auction. This year's auction was also a masquerade, an event where attendees dress formally and wear masks.

The auction raised $13,318, said Meredith Wolbeck, WSC Operations and Welfare treasurer.

Money raised at WSC basket auctions go to the WSC Scholarship Fund to be given as scholarships to F.E. Warren spouses and dependents, said Lauren Shields, WSC president.

"It's our main fundraiser for the year," said Kat Ohlmeyer, WSC scholarship chair. "This single event funds our entire scholarship program."

The event went very well, and many people came to support the cause, Shields said.

Guest speaker for the auction, Suzie Schwartz, wife of former Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. (Ret.) Nortan A. Schwartz, said it is great the WSC carries on old traditions like the auction and makes new traditions as well.

"Be proud of being that military spouse," Schwartz said. "Be proud of being at F.E. Warren.

"I think spouses are vital. They have resources at their fingertips to make change, and they should make change."
