Air Force Assistance Fund kicks off at Warren

F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. --  Fundraising for the Air Force Assistance Fund kicked off here March 24.

Airmen can donate to the fund through with the help of their organizations' AFAF representatives by filling out a form specifying the amount they wish to donate and the manner in which they want to donate, said 2nd Lt. Mark Verbruggen, 90th Missile Wing AFAF project officer and 90th Logistics Readiness Squadron officer in charge of deployment.

Money raised for the AFAF gets distributed to four charities that help Airmen and families in times of need: the Air Force Village, the Air Force Aid Society, the Air Force Enlisted Village and the LeMay Foundation, said Verbruggen.

Master Sgt. Bertram Green, 90th MW AFAF project officer and 90th Communications Squadron first sergeant, said this is his fourth year helping coordinate AFAF activities because AFAF charities helped him in the past.

Green's wife used AFAF money to help pay for her education during an overseas assignment, and when Green's transmission broke, AFAF charities helped then, too, he said.

"There were no questions asked," he said. "It helped out a lot. I'll never forget that."

Project officers held a breakfast to thank AFAF organization representatives and provide them materials they need for fundraising.
