The sounds of a cheering crowd and the Warren Wrangler's gunfire officially welcomed the 2014 Global Strike Challenge competitors home in a ceremony held in the Fall Hall Community Center Nov. 7.
The 90th Operations Group, 90th Security Forces Group and 90th Maintenance Group GSC teams returned from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, where they witnessed the competition's official score posting Nov. 5. The results can be found here.

A showing of Mighty Ninety Airmen applauded the competitors as the "ops, cops and maintenance" group commanders introduced their teammates.

"I'm extremely proud of my Airmen who competed," said Col. Craig Allton, 90th Security Forces Group commander.

It was a physical, mental and emotional competition and they gave it their all, he said. The competitors took a lot of time out of their schedules to train for the competition. GSC is a team effort, and other defenders stepped up to fulfill the duties of the competitors as they trained.

"I have similar feelings about the other teams," he said, "and I am sure their commanders do, too."

Going to Barksdale and meeting with the other competitors provided an opportunity to share experiences and lessons learned, said 1st Lt. Corey Elder, 321st Missile Squadron missile combat crew commander.

"I think the opportunity to get all the wings together from [AFGSC] was really an electric experience."

Senior Airman Colton Schoenegge, 90th SFG Tactical Response Force member who competed in the security forces portion of the 2014 Global Strike Challenge, said he is glad the wing showed their support at the homecoming.

"We can only build on this support in future competitions," said Allton.

All of the competitors can feel confident they did their best to represent the Mighty Ninety.

"It feels great," Schoenegge said. "I'm definitely proud of myself and the team. I had a lot of fun. All the training paid off."
