The F.E. Warren education center here hosted its quarterly Troops to Teachers seminar Jan. 6.

"This seminar exists to provide info [to service members about] the overall availability and process necessary to get into the education career field," said Bill Hardesty, the Troops to Teachers Wyoming representative.

Troops to Teachers seminars have provided resources to service members and retirees since 1994.

Hardesty said he has been involved with the program for more than six years and has helped more than 100 prior-service members obtain careers in education.

The website Troops to Teachers states that service members have established a reputation as excellent teachers and role models for students due to their leadership skills, breadth of experience, dedication, commitment and maturity.

"Having an entity like this for prior-service, like me, is a great help," said Kim Fetterer, wife of Tech. Sgt. Brandon Fetterer, 90th Operations Support Squadron.

Although the program helps military affiliates enter the field of education, it is not a teacher certification program.

"It opens up an avenue of communication people may not know about," said Nick Bellack, assistant director for the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board. "[We] have info people can use and this is a way for us to give it to them."

As Airmen transition out of the military, Troops to Teachers helps guide those who want another opportunity to serve their country and give back to their communities.
