Next time TRICARE beneficiaries fill a prescription from a civilian provider at F. E. Warren Air Force Base Pharmacy, they won't have to squint and do their best to decipher their doctor's cryptic handwriting. That's because electronic prescribing (e-prescribing) has come to F. E. Warren Air Force Base Pharmacy.

The Military Health System is deploying e-prescribing at military pharmacies around the U.S. E-prescribing allows civilian providers to send prescriptions to pharmacies safely, efficiently and securely. The capability is available here now at F. E. Warren Air Force Base Pharmacy.

As of 1 October 2015, F. E. Warren Air Force Base Pharmacy will no longer be accepting faxed prescriptions.  Beneficiaries are highly encouraged to speak with their doctor to begin E-Prescribing.  Their doctors can find us in their database at DoD FE Warren E-Pharmacy.

E-prescribing is an option already adopted by most civilian pharmacies and providers. It can help reduce prescription errors and has the potential to decrease wait times at military pharmacies. When a prescription comes into a pharmacy electronically, it allows the pharmacist to resolve issues before the patient arrives.

"We're glad to offer this new service at F. E. Warren Air Force Base Pharmacy," said Colonel Hans Ritschard, 90th Medical Group Commander. "E-prescribing is a common practice for civilian pharmacies. It's convenient for everyone involved - patient, doctor and pharmacist - and will significantly reduce the potential for medication errors."

Military pharmacies offer TRICARE beneficiaries the best deal for prescriptions. Beneficiaries can get up to a 90-day supply for most medications, and will not have to pay copay or cost-shares.

Beneficiaries can ask their doctor to look for their local military pharmacies in the e-prescribing database or networks. Since military pharmacies will not be able to accept electronic prescriptions for controlled substances, beneficiaries will still need a hand written prescription for these particular medications.
