Members from the 90th Ground Combat Training Squadron competed in the International Sniper Competition from April 5-11, 2024, at Fort Moore, Georgia, earning a 14th place finish in the tournament.

Competitors participated in several field craft events that tested teams both from the U.S. and allied nations to the best of their abilities. The competition included teams from the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment to members of the United Kingdom’s Royal Marines, as well as many others.

“The competition went really well for us,” said Staff Sgt. Jordan Gilliand, 90 GCTS cadre. “We got the chance to test our skills and training over a wide range of complex and simple events that really focus on the sniper team’s ability to shoot and communicate under stress and time constraints.”

Gilliand is a qualified sniper and a Sniper Engagement Course instructor at Camp Guernsey, Wyoming, as are his teammate Staff Sgt. Jakob Boisvert and coach Staff Sgt. Nicholas Gabranidis.

The team worked together to beat out teams from the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, among others.

“It was amazing to be given the opportunity to represent the Air Force sniper community and compete against some of the best snipers in the world,” said Gilliand. “The international sniper competition is a great place for snipers to not only compete in a friendly competition, but most importantly share knowledge and experience to better the sniper community as a whole.”
