CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce presented the Military Affairs Committee’s Cheyenne Trophy to the 890th Missile Security Force Squadron during a ceremony at Little America in Cheyenne May 5, 2023.
The squadron earned the trophy for mission accomplishment, patriotism, off-duty volunteerism and community involvement providing a positive impact in the city of Cheyenne and its residents.
“The dedication to excellence and public service of the 890th Missile Security Forces Squadron is unparalleled within the 90th Missile Wing and these Defenders exemplify ‘Strength Through Discipline’ in their hard work and involvement with the community of Cheyenne,” said Maj. Justin May, 890 MSFS commander. “They demonstrated mission superiority, commitment to our community, and proud culture by improving the quality of life for Airmen and those around them which reflects great credit upon the city of Cheyenne, the state of Wyoming, and the United States of America.”
The Cheyenne Trophy is presented annually to outstanding military units in the local area. This is the first time the 890 MSFS has won the award.
According to this year’s citation, defenders from the 890 MSFS flawlessly executed the wing’s mission, all while volunteering hundreds of hours, to include the hosting of a Native American recognition luncheon and storytelling for 70 local pre-school students. Additionally, members of the squadron volunteered at a local physical therapy center, aiding in the rehabilitation of 32 patients.
“The 890th Missile Security Forces Squadron epitomizes high values of duty, honor, courage, loyalty, commitment, integrity and selfless dedication to the United States nuclear deterrence mission,” said Scott Fox, Military Affairs Committee chairman, while reading the award citation.
The Cheyenne Trophy is awarded to one unit from the Wyoming Air National Guard, the Wyoming National Guard and the active duty Air Force.
