Exceptional Family Member Program personnel held a family event at the Military and Family Readiness Center on F.E. Warren Air Force Base, March 24, 2023.

Nine families attended the event, designed to give EFMP families an opportunity to join and connect with other families who understand the unique circumstances of having family members with special needs. Additionally, there were speakers present to educate families about resources available for their special needs families in the community.

While the information offered by the EFMP is important, one of the goals of the organization is to provide that information in an enjoyable, relaxed environment.

“In order to get buy-in and get this important information to families, we marry with an educational and fun component,” said Brittany Hankinson-McGovern, Family Support Specialist with the EFMP. “Every single one of my events has two parts to it: an educational briefer and a corresponding fun event.”

Most recently, Hankinson-McGovern organized a conflict resolution murder mystery, along with the base chaplain’s office. Typically, there are two to three events monthly from March to August, usually totaling about 12-16 every year. Family nights are just one type of event held by EFMP, and they are held from 5:15 – 7:15 p.m. at the MFRC. The next two planned Family Nights are April 21 and May 26, 2023.
