Quilts of Valor: Donating quilts to wounded military

F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. --  The Quilts of Valor organization donated a quilt to Senior Airman Joshua Brooks, 90th Security Support Squadron, May 31 currently in San Antonio, Texas. Airman Brooks was injured on a deployment to Iraq. 

The quilt was made by Jennifer Williams, the wife of Maj. David Williams, 90th SSPTS commander. 

The QOV organization donates quilts to service members who were injured in the war on terror. The quilts are made by members of QOV or anyone who wants to participate. 

"I never thought that I'd get into sewing, but I did," Mrs. Williams said. "I used to laugh at my grandparents, but when I moved to Wyoming, I told myself I was going to learn how [to sew]." 

When QOV gives away the quilts, they normally don't tell the recipient who it was from. The people that donate them aren't told who it goes to, either. 

But this was a special case, as Airman Brooks came from Major Williams' squadron. Major Williams traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to present the injured Airman his wife's quilt. 

"It made me glad to send it to [Brooks]," said Mrs. Williams. "They really appreciated it."
Being new to the program, Mrs. Williams has made and donated only one quilt, but has plans for more. 

"That's why I'm so proud of her," said Tana Angerman, a friend who introduced Mrs. Williams to the QOV organization. "She's only been quilting for about a year and it's hard to give them away." 

Involvement in the QOV can be just a one time thing, however it might not be that easy to quit. 

"You can make as many as you want," Mrs. Williams said, "or you can make just one. But it's such a good feeling to know that someone out there is walking around with something you've made."
