The Warren Commissary is transitioning its current checkout system to a newer, high-tech system that is being implemented throughout the Defense Commissary Agency.

The system is called the Commissary Advanced Resale Transaction System or CARTS.
Upgraded traditional checkout stations as well as self checkout stations are being installed to minimize line wait times and to bring the store up-to-date with the latest and most convenient technology.

"We are excited about the new system," said Kathy Beatty, Warren Commissary store director. "Service will be faster, quicker, and the self service checkout is going to be great."

The installation begins Sept. 6, and the system will be running Sept. 11. All commissary employees will attend training on the systems before the public uses them in order to answer any questions customers may have.

"The transition will be transparent to the public," Mrs. Beatty said.

Mrs. Beatty said the installation team will remain here for about a week to help employees and customers with the new systems.

"Employees will be available to help people who aren't real familiar with [new checkout stations]," said Dorell Hampton, commissary secretary and personnel liaison. "When the systems are up, there will be plenty of people available who are glad to help them."

Between 7 and 10 a.m., the commissary is on an "early bird" schedule and only has one cashier to check out customers, which can make for long lines. After the new system is in, customers will be able to use the self checkout stations, and the new manned checkout stations will allow for a faster checkout.

In addition to the new checkout stations, the system will include two price check stations throughout the store so customers can scan the items to check correct prices. For more information on the new system, call the commissary at 773-3509.
