The third annual cookie launch took place Dec. 11 from 6:30 a.m. to noon in the Trail's End Club, delivering more than 600 Airmen living in the dormitories a taste of the holidays.

Many of the cookies were baked and donated by the base and local community, but the Military Affairs Committee bought about 55 dozen cookies from a local bakery to help the effort.

After receiving the cookies, the Warren's Spouses club and other volunteers put the bags together and sealed them with a bow and a candy cane, and the first sergeants delivered them to the Airmen.

"This was a huge effort by both the base and the local community," said Terri Morgan, wife of Col. Mike Morgan, 90th Space Wing commander. "And we are just trying to let the Airmen in the dorms know that we are thinking about them, and want to spread some holiday cheer."

The cookie launch started three years ago for just that: to let Airmen in the dorms know that they are not forgotten around the holidays, said Sherri Batway, a member of the Warren's Spouses club and "head cookie elf" since the project began.

"We want to recognize the men and women living in the dorms and want them to know the base and local community care about them," she said. "We know that some of them might not be able to spend time with their families, and we hope that dropping off some cookies will bring them a few smiles this holiday season."

The Air Force Association, MAC, Warren's Spouses club, and the First Sergeants Group are some of the organizations that contributed to this year's cookie launch.

"Without the help of the organizations and people on- and off- base that contribute time and money to this effort it would not be as successful as it is every year," Mrs. Morgan said.
