New area design to allow easier access to Argonne Parade Field Published April 25, 2008 By 2nd Lt. Lisa Meiman 90th Space Wing Public Affairs F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- A new parking lot and stretching pad will be built on base this spring by the 90th Civil Engineer Squadron. The new lot will offer easier access and increased parking availability for Airmen using the outdoor track and Argonne Parade Field. "If there's a closer parking lot, there's more access to the track," said 2nd Lt. Jonathan Needham, 90th CES. Construction began on the new lot between Fort Warren Avenue and Fort Casper Way Monday and is scheduled to be completed in June. The lot will be located directly across the street from Warren's Child Development Center. Col. Mike Morgan, 90th Space Wing commander, directed 90th CES to build the lot to decrease traffic and safety hazards presented by many Airmen parking along the roads near the track. "[The lot] will reduce traffic congestion at Fort Warren Avenue during [physical training] days and wing runs," said Tom Lacy, 90th CES. A new sidewalk will also connect Freedom Hall Fitness Center with the outdoor running track so Airmen will not have to cross the open field between the two now. "This shows the wing puts significant importance on fitness," said Staff Sgt. Brendan Allen, 90th CES. "It also gives us easier and safer access to the running track from the gym." When completed, the parking lot will have 91 parking spaces, including four handicap spaces with ramps, and a 100- by 50-foot stretching pad. The 90th CES plans to remove about 10 inches of dirt before laying pavement down for the lot. "This is the first project we're doing this summer so it will be done hopefully by mid-June," Lieutenant Needham said.
