MSET: As inspection nears, Airmen prepare Published June 11, 2008 By Staff Reports 90th Space Wing Public Affairs F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- The Missile Standardization, Evaluation and Training Assessment takes place June 9 to 15. The MSET is an in-depth evaluation of nuclear responsibilities and capabilities of ICBM units including groups such as operations, maintenance, security forces and mission support. Every 18 months, Twentieth Air Force evaluators conduct inspections on the 90th Space Wing to focus on training, evaluation, technical proficiency and support. The MSET allows the 20th Air Force Commander to assess the evaluations and training processes and products of several units. "Some of these guys have been practicing for this since January and putting in long hours to prepare accordingly," said Mr. Bob Kodis, 90th Space Wing Plans and Programs office. It is all about repetition and continuous education, he added. There are groups on base that have been doing exercises for a while now, said Capt. William Weiford III, 90th SW/XP. They've been working early to prepare by carefully prioritizing their time. The Wing is given a 100 percent rating scale that is broken down into four large grading sections for the units' individual performance duties. Evaluation proficiency accounts for 35 percent of the overall score. Training proficiency accounts for another 35 percent. Technical proficiency accounts for 20, and support counts for 10 percent. Operations and maintenance will be rated on their proficiency of evaluations in areas like missile operations, aircrews, facility manager and chef. Security forces will be rated upon their training. Support will be graded on their vehicles, hardware and equipment. "Traditionally, our wing does exceptionally well on the MSET," Captain Weiford said. "We have a really good inspection record. The credit goes to the first line supervisors and their Airmen, who have been putting in the long hours to prepare, Captain Weiford said. The MSET kicks off with an in-brief June 9 at 3 p.m. in the base theater, and maximum participation is encouraged.
