Mini triathlon

Jay Diller swims 10 lengths in the aquatic center’s 50-yard indoor pool during the mini triathlon Saturday morning. She was competing in a team with her mother, Jan Diller, doing the 12-mile bike leg and her sister, Maggie, running 2.5 miles for the final leg (Photos by 1st Lt. Lisa Meiman).

Capt. Les McPeak, 321st Missile Squadron, pulls out his bike to begin the second leg of the mini triathlon. The bike ride was 12 miles long. Participants could compete in teams of three or individually.

Sandy Champlin and Shareen Muldrow use yoga to warm up and stretch their muscles in the aquatic center's front lawn before the mini triathlon Saturday. Participants for the competition began signing in at 6:30 a.m. Mrs. Champlin began competing in triathlons in Cheyenne and duathlons, in Laramie five years ago.

Shannon Areford, wife of Master Sgt. Delbert Areford, 90th Force Support Squadron and 90th Space Wing first sergeant, begins the 12-mile bike leg of the mini triathlon. She has been training for this event, her first triathlon, for a while. Mrs. Areford placed 2nd in the 30- to 39-year-old females.

Nick Cramer triumphantly crosses the finish line of the mini triathlon after running 2.5 miles around base – the final leg of the triathlon. He competed as an individual and had the best time in the 20- through 29-year-old category. The fastest time overall was from the 40- to 49-year-old male category.
