Temporary visitor center to position at Gate 2 Published March 19, 2009 By Staff Sgt. Chad Thompson 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- Due to a construction project Gate 1 closes April 1, and during that time, Gate 2 will open 24 hours daily and Gate 5 will open Mondays to Fridays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., said Julie Whalen, 90th Civil Engineer Squadron. "There will be a lot of changes beginning April 1," Mrs. Whalen said. "Everyone coming on and going off base will have to be aware of the changes and do their best to find a time that will work best for their schedules." She said making a dry run to help identify the time it takes to get to and from work, or other obligations might be a good idea for everyone on base. During the Gate 1 construction, a temporary visitor control center will open at Gate 2; however all commercial vehicles and delivery vehicles will still enter through Gate 2. Gate 5 will not be used for commercial traffic, Mrs. Whalen emphasized. Gate 5 is for those members who have full access to base; Gate 2 will be for all visitors. "More than 1,100 vehicles go through Gate 1 between 6:45 to 7:45 a.m.," Mrs. Whalen said. Once Gate 1 closes everyone needs to understand traffic on Central Avenue for Gate 5 and Missile Drive for Gate 2 may back up considerably though base officials are working to limit the safety concerns as much as possible. "We've worked hard to coincide upgrading Warren's Gate 1 with Wyoming Department of Transportation's rebuilding of the I-25 overpass at Randall Avenue," said Col. Mike Morgan, 90th Missile Wing commander. "This will result in a much safer traffic pattern for WyDOT as the base uses gates 2 and 5, and will hopefully allow a speedier completion of construction," he said.
